In Slough, our youth Care Council gives care-experienced children and young people an opportunity to meet other young people with similar backgrounds and experiences.
We are aiming to establish a group of young people who have first-hand experience of being in care. Our meetings will provide a social space where you can connect with other young people facing similar situations. Whether you’ve been in foster care, residential care, kinship care, or other care arrangements, this council is for you.
We aim to provide children and young people the opportunity to:
- Have a say on the issues that matter to you and be heard;
- Share ideas on how things could be improved and suggest new ideas;
- Influence real changes to the services and support you receive;
- Meet the professionals who can make a change;
- Make new friends and have fun!
By getting involved, you also have the opportunity to meet with senior managers from Slough Children First and will also represent the issues, views and comments of Slough’s care-experienced children and young people at corporate board meetings.
Our Care Council is proud to host two empowering forums:
- Care Leaver’s Forum: A platform for individuals who have transitioned out of care, providing a space to share experiences, access resources, and advocate for positive change.
- Care Experienced Groups: Tailored to nurture the voices of young people with care experience, divided into:
- Up to 11s: A friendly and supportive environment for our younger members to play, learn, and grow together.
- 12 to 16s: A dynamic group designed for teenagers to connect, discuss, and develop skills for the future.
Join our community where every voice is heard and valued. Together, we’re building a brighter tomorrow.

SUMMER WORKSHOP
Our summer workshop was a resounding success! Our young people engaged in a variety of enriching activities, from learning to cook a 3-course meal within a £5 budget to redesigning social care systems. The enthusiasm and creativity displayed by our young attendees were truly inspiring. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will continue to make in our community. Thank you to all our young people who participated and supported this initiative!
AUTUMN PROGRAMME
The autumn workshops were vibrant and dynamic, bringing together a diverse group of young participants. The week was filled with a variety of engaging activities that were specifically chosen based on the feedback from our young people. From learning new culinary skills to shooting hoops, we did it all!
We saw our young people explore their culinary creativity in the Chef it Up! event, whipping up some spooky, Halloween-themed meals. The Sports and Wellbeing event was a highlight, promoting physical health and mental wellness through various sports and mindfulness activities. Additionally, the CICC joint activity day fostered a sense of community and collaboration, bringing young people across the borough together for a day of fun and learning. These events, coinciding with Care Leavers’ Week, made the workshops particularly memorable and impactful.
