‘Your Stories’ is all about how children and young people have shared their stories, views and experiences of care, through creative activities, to help other care-experienced children, young people and the adults (such as foster carers, social workers, IROs, PAs) who support you and care for you.
Tyler’s story
‘Tyler’s story’ is a new animation created by a group of Slough’s care-experienced young people. It is about a teenager called Tyler and his journey of coming in to care and meeting his foster carers. Young people worked with Animation Expressions to make the animation which they made to help other teenagers who are in foster care. Young people used their own memories and experiences to make the animation and they hope it also helps carers and social workers to understand how young people may feeling.
Young people told us that they got involved in the animation project as they wanted to make something for teenagers to help them know that they are not alone and that there is always someone who they can talk to about how they are feeling.
My On-Line World
Young people, from across Berkshire, took part in a joint activity day called ‘My On-Line World’ to help create a training programme for foster carers. Young people shared their experiences of using social media and how foster carers can talk to and support their young people. Young people used graffiti art to express their thoughts and ideas on what should be included in the on-line safety training for foster carers. What Defines Me
Young people took part in a fun and creative workshop run by Desree, a poet, spoken word artist and writer. Young people were encouraged to think about what defines them now as a young person, what and who is important to them, what their hobbies or interests are or were, favourite things, what makes them happy or sad. Young people reflected on their life experiences and memories and wrote down words that defined and described them. Desree then encouraged young people to choose two of their words and explore these further by describing and expressing what these words meant to them.
Feeling good and staying healthy
Young people from across Berkshire took part in an activity day during the February half term. The theme for the day was ‘feeling good and keeping healthy’. Young people took part in lots of activities which included street dance workshop, (a very energetic) boot camp session and smoothie making.
The day finished with young people sharing their top tips for feeling good and staying healthy, both physically and emotionally. Everyone also received a goodie bag to take home with them.
Young people wanted to produce something that would help other care-experienced children and young people. You can download your copy of the ‘Top Tips’ by clicking on the link below.
