There was a Caribbean vibe in the air at Slough Children’s Services Trust’s annual Foster Carer Dinner, Dance and Awards Ceremony, held at the Heathrow Windsor Marriott Hotel on Saturday, 30 September 2017, to celebrate the incredible work of foster carers in Slough.
Foster carers from across the borough were joined for an evening of celebration by Slough’s MP – Tan Dhesi – as well as the Mayor of Slough – Ishrat Shah – who both paid tribute to the work of foster carers in welcoming vulnerable children into their families and offering them a brighter future.
Two awards were presented to foster carers who had achieved five years’ service, and four awards for foster carers who had achieved ten years’ service. Additionally there were five ‘outstanding contribution’ awards presented to foster carers who, in the Trust’s view, had gone ‘above and beyond’.
‘Fostering a child can be an incredibly rewarding journey, complete with many highs, some lows, and everything in between. Our foster carers across Slough are doing a magnificent job, helping to ensure that every child can be part of a loving, nurturing family and we are delighted to be able to celebrate this,’ said Trust CEO Nicola Clemo.
‘The awards are our way of saying thank you to those foster carers who have shown such dedication to the children they look after, whether it is for a few days or several years. Many have been doing this for a long time, yet continue to show the same passion and commitment they have always done.’
‘There is currently a shortage of foster carers locally and nationally and we work tirelessly to ensure that the best family is found for each and every child. The evening was a celebration of those who have stepped up, and we are proud to be able to honour them,’ she added.
